Background:
Arkady's family worked for Valkyrie, her mother as a researcher into First Ones lore and her father as a cyberneticist. She was educated there growing up, learning the skills of a healer while also joining in with the hobbies of her parents, including magic tricks and 'game night' gambling (though she always lost to her older brother). When a remote alien bio-signature was detected, she prepared to go on the expedition to study it, and was put into cryo-stasis beforehand. The expedition was scrubbed when the Scourge began their attack, and Arkady was shuttled off into one of the giant freezer ships being prepared for Exodus.
When she was finally defrosted, she found her brother was already set to leave on one of the last corporate expeditions to search out new medical resources. So she made a bet with him that she'd find more, or better ones! She had to have her parents pull strings to get her the trade language imprinting and the trade supplies, even if there wasn't a ship that she could get onto. Valkyrie agreed to begin chartering independent ships, as the need to replace diminishing stocks was only getting more desperate.
